Summary

Yes, homesteading is possible in New Jersey! Explore two successful operations run by Tomia MacQueen (Wildflower Farm) and Tessa Desmond (Firefly Homestead Farm). You will come away with many ideas that you can apply to your own situation, whether that be a large yard or farm property of any size.

Both homesteads combine crops with livestock and there are some commercial aspects of each. Wildflower Farm sells Pasture-Raised Poultry, Grass-Fed Lamb as well as duck and chicken eggs and garlic. Firefly Homestead Farm hosts a community garden club each week during the growing season, cooperates with a local woodsman, and sells chicken eggs as well as various farm-raised meats and, on occasion, flowers and plants.

We will move from one property to the next, ending with food and beverages to allow us to socialize and continue talking about agriculture into the evening.
