Raising and Processing Chickens

With Jessica Isbrecht

Whether you are a homesteader, aspiring farmer, or curious consumer, this workshop will give you the opportunity to learn what it takes to raise laying and meat hens. We will discuss and see examples of laying and meat chicken breeds, housing, brooding, feeding, and processing.

Jessica Isbrecht is the owner and founder of Green Duchess Farm, a small-scale pasture-based livestock farm in Hillsborough, NJ. A third-generation farmer and NOFA-NJ Journey-person Farmer, she melded her Biology degree, environmental career, and love of animals to create a thriving farm business focused on sustainable practices, humane treatment of animals, and high quality food. In 2014 Jessica and her partner Byron Igoe developed Veggie Tables, a comprehensive recordkeeping software for organic growers.
